After 30+ test installs on Windows 10/11, this sequence works in ~85% of cases:

  • When the installer pauses at 12–15% (checking VC++), it will likely error with Error 1603.
  • At the product key prompt:
  • Installation path: Avoid C:\Program Files if possible. Use C:\Autodesk\2016 to bypass permission issues.
  • After “Installation Complete” – do not launch yet.

  • Click Install. The installer will install prerequisites (VC++ redistributables, .NET) as needed. Wait — this can take 15–45 minutes depending on system speed.
  • When installation completes, click Finish and reboot if prompted.
  • Launch AutoCAD 2016. Sign in with Autodesk ID if required, or activate using serial number if activation prompt appears. Activate online or use phone activation if offline.
