Verdict
The show begins with an anonymous, unnamed thief (Antony Starr, The Boys) being released from prison after 15 years. He intends to find his former lover and partner-in-crime, Anastasia, who has assumed a new identity. However, fate intervenes in the town of Banshee, Pennsylvania (Amish country).
Before he can find Ana, a run-down bar fight ends with him killing the newly hired town sheriff. Impulsively, the ex-con steals the sheriff’s identity. He has no badge, no training, and no moral compass—only a mastery of martial arts and a criminal’s instinct.
Season 1 introduces Burton. The silent, bald “assistant” to Kai Proctor. For nine episodes, he is a creepy butler. Then, in the finale, he reveals he is a killing machine. The fight between Nola Longshadow (Odette Annable) and Burton is the single greatest one-on-one fight scene in premium cable history. It is balletic savagery. Overview
You can stream Banshee on Max (formerly HBO Max) today. But streaming is ephemeral. The BRRip is permanent.
That X264 file on your Plex server is a time capsule. It represents the last gasp of the “mid-budget cable actioner.” Before streaming algorithms demanded that every show be an 8-hour movie with “prestige pacing,” Banshee was a freight train of plot. Season 1 moves at 100mph. There is no filler. There is no bottle episode. There is only a fake sheriff, a real femme fatale, and a Mr. Robot-level hacker named Job (Hoon Lee) who steals every scene with a smirk and a keyboard.
