“Come next week,” the clerk dismissed him, waving a hand.

During the 2020-21 farmers’ protest against the three farm laws, the BKU demonstrated sophisticated use of technology (Twitter, WhatsApp, Zoom meetings). However, when it comes to membership, leadership has resisted creating a centralized digital database due to fears of "government harassment and data leaks."
Nevertheless, younger leaders within the union are experimenting with QR codes on ID cards that link to a farmer’s basic profile. This hybrid model—physical card with digital verification—might become the norm by 2026-27.
The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) is one of India's most prominent and influential farmer organizations, particularly strong in Western Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
