Everyone gets excited. Then Dad brings out that box — the same dusty, torn cardboard box from 2014. Inside: a synthetic tree missing three branches, fairy lights that work only if you hold the wire at a 45° angle, and one star that looks like it survived a house fire.
After 45 minutes of assembling, the tree leans at a dangerous 30° angle. Mom puts a bedsheet under it “for safety.” Dad says, “Perfect. Ab iske neeche gift rakh denge.”
Gift? We all know that gift is going to be a box of Kaju Katli recycled from Diwali.

His startup, Muggington (slogan: "You cry, we print"), has received 47 orders for "All I Want for Christmas is You" mugs. But his WiFi router has chosen this holy night to die.
"Why, God? Why today?" Chotu screams, holding the blinking red router like a dead parrot.
Bauji, wrapped in a faded rajai, looks up from his phone. "WiFi nahi hai? Good. Go to mandir tomorrow. Better than this Santa bakwas."
"Bauji! Customers will cancel! My rating will drop from 4.2 to... to negative!"
Meanwhile, the colony’s power goes off. Total blackout. Fog thick as dal makhani.
Suddenly, a thud on the terrace. Chotu climbs up with a torch. And there he is.
Santa Claus.
But not the ho-ho-ho, Coca-Cola version. This Santa is thin, wearing a red sweater from Sarojini Nagar, sneakers with holes, and a mask hanging from one ear. His "sleigh" is an auto-rickshaw stuck in the colony’s pothole.
"Arre bhai!" Santa says, rubbing his back. "This GPS is useless. I wanted Sector 62, but ended up in this chakkar."
Chotu blinks. "You’re... Santa?"
"Part-time. Main job is delivery partner for Naughty-or-Nice Express. Your packet, beta."
Santa hands over a dusty cardboard box. Inside: a brand new JioFi router and a note:
"Dear Chotu,
You worked hard this year. Even when your mug printing got messed up and you printed 'Merry Chrysler' on 12 mugs, you fixed it with a free pen.
Keep going. P.S. — The WiFi password is 'BINDAS2022'."
Chotu tears up. "You came for me? In this fog?"

Bauji arrives with chai. He stares at Santa. "You're not Ambani?"

Santa sips. "Uncle, your son printed a mug that says 'World’s Okayest Son' and sold 200 pieces. He’ll be fine."
The power returns. WiFi works. Chotu hugs the router. Santa climbs into his auto, honks twice, and disappears into the fog, shouting: "Ho Ho Ho! And don't forget to leave 5-star rating!"
Chotu delivers all mugs by midnight. His phone pings: 47 orders completed. 47 five-star reviews.
He looks at Bauji, who is quietly hanging a handmade star on the door—made from an old newspaper and fevicol.
"Bauji? You believe now?"
Bauji smiles. "Beta, miracles don’t need WiFi. They just need one stubborn fool who doesn’t stop."
They sit together, eating leftover paneer tikka, as the colony’s lights flicker like a thousand small hopes.
