Note: This guide assumes a standard US QWERTY physical keyboard. Keys not listed retain their default English function.
The number row is dedicated to Grantha letters used in Sanskrit loanwords:
Order of typing – Always type consonant first, then the vowel sign key.
Example for "கே" (kē): dci tml ismail tamil font keyboard layout
Use shift for long vowels – a = அ, A = ஆ, i = இ, I = ஈ.
For conjuncts (koottukzhuthu) – Type consonant + pulli + next consonant.
Example: "க்க" = k + d + k + a → க்க (ka) Note: This guide assumes a standard US QWERTY
Grantha letters – Use j, sh, S, h directly.
To write கா (kaa):
To write கி (ki):
| Key | Output | Key | Output | | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | | z | க | . | . (Period) | | x | இ | / | ப | | c | ச | Shift | Modifier | | v | ஞ | | | | b | ஞ் | | | | n | த | | | | m | ந | | | The number row is dedicated to Grantha letters
Crucial Note: The DCI TML Ismail layout relies heavily on the Shift key. Typing without Shift gives you consonants (க், ச், ட்), while typing with Shift often gives you the vowel carriers or dependent vowels (ஆ, ஈ, ஊ).
Solution: The pulli is automatic in this font. When you type a consonant alone (e.g., z for க்), the pulli is included. To remove the pulli (to make it a pure consonant without a dot, e.g., at the end of a sentence), you usually press the backspace or use a specific ZWNJ (Zero Width Non-Joiner), but this is rarely needed.
