Downloading the file is only half the battle. You need a Restoration LUT to view the footage normally in your editing software.

You will find many YouTube comments saying "Cinestyle is garbage" or "It ruined my footage." Here is why those users are wrong, and how to avoid their mistakes.

The Mistake: Underexposing. Because the image looks flat and grey on the LCD, many beginners think it looks "dull" and try to lower the ISO or close the aperture. Do not do this. Log profiles require that you Expose To The Right (ETTR) . You need to overexpose your image by roughly 1 to 1.5 stops. When you bring it into editing and apply a Rec.709 LUT, the shadows will fall perfectly into place. The Solution: Use your histogram. Push the exposure until the highlights just touch the right side, but do not clip.

Before you download the file, you need to understand what it does. Most Canon cameras (like the 5D Mark II, 7D, 60D, and even early EOS R models) shoot video with a Rec.709 gamma curve. This curve crushes blacks and clips highlights to make images look "punchy" straight out of camera. Unfortunately, this leaves very little room for color grading in post-production.
