By default, all common types are enabled. To disable a type (reduce false reads):
For 2D models: QR Code, PDF417, Data Matrix are enabled by default.
| Part | Function | |------|----------| | Trigger button | Press to scan | | LED indicator | Green = successful read / Blue = power / Red = error | | Beeper | 1 beep = good read / 2 beeps = configuration saved / 3 beeps = error | | USB port | Connects to PC/ POS terminal | | Scan window | Laser/LED + camera aperture | excelvan barcode scanner user manual extra quality
To maintain "Extra Quality" physically:
Your scanner is likely in Keyboard Wedge mode (acts like a keyboard). This works for Notepad and Excel. However, for web apps (Shopify, Square, QuickBooks), USB Serial (Virtual COM) is higher quality because it sends raw data faster without keyboard driver interference. By default, all common types are enabled
To switch to USB Serial (Recommended for POS):
To stay in Keyboard Wedge but fix speed: Scan "USB Keyboard" then scan "Inter-Character Delay: 5ms" (this fixes missing characters on slow RPi systems). For 2D models: QR Code, PDF417, Data Matrix
A dirty lens is the #1 killer of scan quality.
Weekly Cleaning:
Monthly Firmware Check: Excelvan rarely issues firmware updates, but if you have a "Q" series model, visit Excelvan's official support page (do not use third-party driver sites). Update only if the scanner fails to read 2025-era QR codes (DMC codes).
Cable Strain Relief: For wired scanners, 80% of failures happen at the RJ45 port. Wrap electrical tape around the cable base to create a "spring relief."
