Forscan Beta 2418 New (2024)

The "new" Beta 2418 squashes a few annoying bugs from the previous April build (2415):

Before diving into the specifics, let’s clarify the versioning. FORScan version numbers typically follow a logical structure: Year / Month / Build.

Therefore, FORScan Beta 2418 is a build released in the 18th week of 2024. The "new" designation indicates that within the Beta channel, this is the most recent iteration, superseding Beta 2415 or 2410. It bridges the gap between the stable release (currently 2.3.59 as of this writing) and the future stable version 2.4.0.

Note: The mobile (iOS/Android) version of FORScan remains at 1.3.x and does not yet include these 2.4.18 features.

Beta 2418 is significant because it introduced a major architectural change for the Android platform, moving the app to a native codebase.

1. Native Android Application Previously, FORScan for Android was largely a port or relied on specific runtime environments. Version 2.7.x (including 2418) introduced a fully native application. This resulted in:

2. VIN Decoding Improvements This version brought enhanced decoding for Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN). This is particularly interesting for users who work with multiple vehicles, as the app can now auto-detect more specific model details and module types automatically, reducing the manual setup required before coding.

3. Expanded Vehicle Support As with all FORScan updates, 2418 added support for newer model years. This includes specific support for the latest Ford and Mazda models (e.g., 2024 models) and fixes for specific modules in vehicles like the Ford Maverick and Bronco Sport that were problematic in earlier builds.
