Why it makes the list: Attack on Titan is a cultural reset. What begins as a simple revenge story about humanity living inside giant walls to escape man-eating Titans evolves into a morally grey geopolitical war crime drama. The animation by Wit Studio and later MAPPA is cinematic. The manga, drawn by Hajime Isayama, is a masterclass in foreshadowing.
