According to Shia and Sufi tradition, the Kitab al-Jafr was dictated by the Prophet Muhammad to his son-in-law and successor, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib. It is said that the revelations were inscribed on the white skin of a young camel (or ram), rolled into a scroll, and stored in a leather pouch.
