The online mode is a double-edged sword. When it works, it’s brilliant. You join worldwide lobbies, watch highlights, and vote on the next track. However, Nintendo still uses peer-to-peer connections. If one player has bad Wi-Fi, the "lag teleporting" can ruin the race. The Global and Regional matchmaking is generally reliable, though hardcore players lament the lack of dedicated servers.
