Morris Guitar Serial Numbers
Morris Musical Instrument Co. formally restructured under Moridaira. During this period, serial numbers became less standardized, often just a batch number. Many guitars from this era have no serial number at all (only a model stamp).
Serial Number Format: 6 digits only (No letter, no model number prefix)
Example: 345678
How to read it (tentative):
Beware: A six-digit number starting with "0" (e.g., 012345) is likely a 1990 or 2000 guitar. Without factory records, these can be off by ±2 years.
While not an exact science, the structure of the serial number usually indicates the era in which the guitar was built. morris guitar serial numbers
This is the most desirable era. These guitars were designed to directly compete with Martin D-28s, D-18s, and Gibson J-45s. They feature solid tops, Brazilian rosewood (early 70s) or Indian rosewood (mid 70s), and dovetail neck joints.
Serial Number Format: Model Number + 5 or 6 digit number

Because Morris guitars were high-quality copies, they are sometimes mistaken for the brands they imitated. Furthermore, Morris produced guitars for other distributors (OEM).
