Activators modify protected system files. When Windows Update runs, it sees these modified files as "corrupt" and attempts to fix them. This leads to a tug-of-war where the activator patches a file, and Windows breaks it, eventually leading to the dreaded "Windows is not genuine" black screen or boot loops.
