| Switch Player | A | Cycles control to the defender nearest the ball. |
| Sprint | RT | Use to close down space, but manage stamina. |
| Tackle | X | The Button. Press to make a standard hit. |
| Big Hit / Spear Tackle | B | A high-risk, high-reward tackle. It drains your momentum meter (yellow bar). If successful, it stops the ball carrier instantly. If missed, you are stuck in an animation. |
| Ankle Tap | Y | Used when chasing a breakaway player. Dives at their ankles. |
| Contest Kick | A (in air) | If you are under a high ball (up-and-under), press A to jump and catch/contest. |
