Stanag 2174 Link

At its core, STANAG 2174 describes a publish-subscribe information exchange pattern. Three roles exist:

This decouples senders from receivers. A logistics system in Germany can publish supply status without knowing which brigade in Lithuania needs it. The broker handles the distribution based on subscription filters. stanag 2174

Validate compliance using the NATO C2C Interoperability Test Tool. Participate in Coalition Warrior Interoperability Exercise (CWIX) – the annual NATO event where STANAG 2174 systems are stress-tested. At its core, STANAG 2174 describes a publish-subscribe

STANAG 2174 includes a concept of Store and Forward and Late Joiner. A mobile unit may lose connectivity for hours. When it reconnects, the broker can replay all relevant published data (subject to temporal constraints) so the unit catches up. This is critical for special forces operating in denied environments. NATO’s Architecture for C2 Information Exchange (C2IE) is moving toward containerized brokers. STANAG 2174 brokers will run as microservices at the tactical edge, spinning up and down based on mission needs.

For a national program to join a coalition operation, integrating a new proprietary interface for each partner might cost tens of millions. By implementing a single STANAG 2174 interface (with a compliant MIM adapter), a system can exchange data with any other STANAG 2174-compliant system. The NATO C2C Programme estimates a 60% reduction in integration effort.

To achieve compliance with STANAG 2174, a military platform must undergo rigorous assessment across several domains.
