Toon Boom Harmony Library — Deluxe

When you import a template from the Library using "Reference" mode, it remains linked to the source. If you update the master character rig in the Library, every scene using that character asks if you want to update automatically. Try doing that with copy-paste.

Now you are on Scene 37, needing that clock.

Even seasoned pros mess up the Library. Here are the top 3 mistakes:

Mistake #1: Breaking the Reference Link If you move the original template file on your hard drive outside of Toon Boom, the Library loses the link. Fix: Always move/copy files within the Harmony Library interface, not your OS.

Mistake #2: Saving Rigs with Drawing Proxies If you save a rig as a template while specific drawings are loaded in the timeline, those drawings might not travel with the rig. Fix: Ensure all drawings are saved in the "Drawings" folder of the scene or use "Export > Drawing Package." toon boom harmony library

Mistake #3: Ignoring the "Clean" Folder Over time, your Library accumulates unused thumbs and cache files. Go to File > Clean > Clean Library Cache to free up disk space and speed up thumbnail loading.

When you drag an asset from the Library into your scene, you have two options:

Pro Tip: Use Reference for assets that are still in development. Use Copy only when you need to diverge for a specific shot.

One of the most underrated features is the "Global Palette." If you store a palette in the Library and link your scene’s palette to it, changing the color in the Library changes it across 50 scenes simultaneously. This is a lifesaver when a client requests "Night Mode" for a sequence. Even seasoned pros mess up the Library
