After entering your serial number, the license manager creates a file. Backup this folder:
C:\ProgramData\Schneider Electric\Licenses\
Copy it to a secure network drive. If your PC crashes, restoring this file can sometimes avoid re-activation.
New users often confuse the Serial Number field with a software license key. Vijeo Designer 6.2 requires a separate software license (usually a USB dongle or a license file from Schneider) to run on a PC. The license has nothing to do with the target serial number. Alex had already activated his PC license via the "Software License Manager." The target serial number was purely for HMI identification.
Unlike most software, the Serial Number field in Vijeo Designer 6.2 is not for activation. Instead, it is an optional identifier for the physical HMI unit itself. Some companies use it to:
Alex found the HMI's hardware serial number printed on a sticker on the back of the panel. He entered it into the project settings under Project → Target → Serial Number. This allowed the download to proceed because the software now recognized the target as authorized.
When you purchase Vijeo Designer 6.2, you receive a 25-character alphanumeric code (e.g., ABCDE-FGHIJ-KLMNO-PQRST-UVWXY). In practice, most engineers call this the "serial number," though Schneider officially terms it a Product Key.
Where to find it:
How to use it: This key is entered during installation or via the "License Manager" utility. It is used to generate a license.txt or licfile.dat file that is bound to your PC’s hardware ID.
If using a USB hardware key (Sentinel SuperPro), the dongle has a visible 8-10 digit serial number etched or printed on its housing. This number must be entered during the "Register Dongle" step in Vijeo Designer 6.2.
If you use a USB dongle (Reference ending in USB):
Once the software is installed, you can retrieve these identifiers from within the application:
