.wua Wii U Roms -

.WUA stands for Wii U Archive. It is a single-file container format designed specifically for the CEMU emulator (and a handful of other experimental emulators). Unlike traditional disc images or extracted folders, a .WUA file packages the base game, all update patches, and any installed DLC (Downloadable Content) into one consolidated, compressed archive.

Think of it as the .chd (Compressed Hunks of Data) format for Dreamcast/PS1, or the .rvz format for GameCube/Wii – but tailored entirely for the Wii U’s unique encryption and file structure.

Wii U discs contain safety sectors and garbage data. A .WUA file automatically trims this waste. For example, Paper Mario: Color Splash’s disc has 4 GB of padding. A .WUA removes it entirely.

Some older emulators or forks (like Decaf) don’t support .wua. And while Cemu handles it perfectly, a few niche homebrew tools still expect the traditional folder structure.
