⚠️ Privacy note: Most “online patchers” upload your original file + patch to a remote server. Only use them with non-sensitive, legally-owned files. For true privacy, use a local patcher (the original XDelta).

By using an online patcher, you are essentially building your own version of the game, bypassing the need to download pirated material. It is the most ethical way to enjoy fan translations and rom hacks.
Let’s assume you downloaded a fan translation patch for "Chrono Trigger (USA).sfc" called chrono_english_v1.2.xdelta. xdelta online patcher
Step 1: Acquire the Legal Base ROM/ISO Do not ask patchers for copyrighted files. You must have the legally dumped original file already on your hard drive. The patch will only work with the exact matching checksum (MD5/SHA1) of the original.
Step 2: Choose Your Weapon Navigate to a trusted XDelta online patcher. For this guide, we will use a client-side JS patcher for privacy.
Step 3: Upload the Original File
Click the "Original File" box. Select your Chrono Trigger (USA).sfc. The browser will load it into memory. (Note: For large PS2 ISOs, this may take a minute).
Step 4: Upload the Patch File

Step 7: Verify (Optional but Recommended) Check the file size. If the original was exactly 4MB and the patched is 4MB, success. If it output a 0KB file, the MD5 hash didn't match (wrong base ROM version).

Click the "Patch" or "Apply" button. The browser will process the files (which usually takes only a second or two) and prompt you to download the new file.
