« — Ne vous fiez pas à vos yeux, lui dit la Bête, et ne me haïssez pas parce que je suis laid. — Je ne vous hais point, répondit la Belle. — Je vous aime tant, reprit la Bête, que, pour vous faire plaisir, je consens à vous laisser aller voir votre père. »
Once upon a time, in a distant land shrouded in mist, stood a magnificent castle. Its stone walls were covered in ivy, and its tall towers seemed to pierce the clouds. However, the castle was silent, for a terrible curse lay upon it.
Inside the castle lived a Beast. He was not always a monster. Once, he was a handsome prince, but he had been cruel and selfish. An enchantress had punished him, giving him the fur of a wolf and the claws of a bear. The curse could only be broken if he learned to love another, and earn their love in return, before the last petal of a magic rose fell.
One cold winter night, an old merchant named Maurice arrived at the castle, seeking shelter. The Beast, furious at the intrusion, locked him in a cold dungeon.
The next morning, a young girl named Belle arrived at the castle gates. She was Maurice’s daughter. She was not only beautiful, with hair the color of chestnuts, but she was also brave.
"Please," she begged the Beast, her voice trembling slightly. "Take me instead. My father is old and sick. Let him go."
The Beast looked at her with sad, human eyes hidden behind his monstrous face. "You would stay here forever?" he growled.
"I promise," Belle said.
The Beast agreed. He released Maurice, and Belle became the prisoner. But the Beast was not as cruel as he looked. He gave Belle a magnificent room with a library filled with thousands of books. He brought her the finest food. They began to take walks in the garden together. Bonus oral possible : Demander aux élèves de
Days turned into weeks. Belle realized that the Beast had a kind heart. He listened to her stories and he laughed at her jokes. He was no longer a monster to her; he was a friend.
One evening, the Beast gave Belle a magical mirror. "Look into it," he said softly. "It will show you whatever you wish to see."
Belle looked into the mirror and saw her father. He was sick with worry, wandering through the forest, searching for her. "I must go to him!" Belle cried. "He will die without me!"
The Beast sighed. The rose in the glass jar nearby had only one petal left. He knew that if she left, the curse would last forever. But he also knew he loved her.
"Go," the Beast said, handing her the mirror. "Take this, so you may always remember me. Go save your father."
Belle rushed home to save her father. But as soon as she arrived, she realized she missed the castle. She missed the Beast's gentle voice and his kind eyes. She realized she loved him.
She rode her horse back to the castle as fast as the wind. When she arrived, she found the Beast lying in the garden, weak and dying. The last petal of the rose had just fallen.
"Don't leave me!" Belle cried, falling to her knees beside him. She held his paw and whispered, "I love you."
Suddenly, golden sparks of magic swirled around them. The Beast’s fur disappeared. His claws turned into hands. Where the Beast had lain, a handsome prince now stood. évaluation finale (final assessment) for La Belle et
"Is it really you?" Belle asked, amazed.
"It is," the Prince smiled. "You broke the spell with your love."
